The Black Curriculum (TBC) was founded in 2019 by CEO Lavinya Stennett to address the omission of Black history in schools nationwide. TBC aims to provide all young people in the UK with the opportunity to learn Black British history, all year round, to encourage a sense of identity and belonging.
Our objective is to integrate Black British history into the curriculum, across key stages, year groups and all year round, rather than limiting it to the month of October.
We will support young people and teachers in schools to deliver Black British history in a committed, confident and authentic manner.
Our services for the education sector covers early years to further education and aims to equip education providers with the skills they need to provide a more inclusive education.

National Ambassador Scheme
DescripThe National Ambassador Scheme (NAS) is a six-month arts, heritage, and cultural programme for Year 9 to Year 13 students, currently offered in London. It unfolds in three phases: Education (Jan–Feb), where students attend workshops and create educational content on Black British history; Research (Mar–Apr), where they develop a creative project exploring either Black British history or their own heritage, supported by partner organisations; and Campaigning (May–June), where they launch awareness campaigns based on their work. Participants receive monthly support from TBC staff and a school-appointed NAS Coordinator, with sign-ups open from September to December. The programme enhances collaboration, independence, and career readiness, culminating in a certificate, access to TBC’s Career Hub, and a showcase event.tion goes here

Curriculum Consultations
The Black Curriculum’s curriculum consultations help schools embed inclusive language, diverse narratives, and arts-based practices into their Schemes of Work, focusing on one year group (primary) or one year group and department (secondary). Delivered by qualified educators over a 2-hour session, the process includes auditing the curriculum, collaborating with staff, and providing bespoke lesson plans, terminology guidance, and strategies for embedding Black British history. After reviewing the submitted SOW, educators meet with the department to present recommendations, share resources, and support the development of inclusive, identity-aware teaching across key stages.
Why Partner with The Black Curriculum
At The Black Curriculum, we don’t just deliver educational services—we help schools transform the way they teach, engage, and empower. Our assemblies, workshops, teacher training, curriculum consultations, and youth programmes are crafted with precision, passion, and purpose. Each offering is rooted in the belief that Black British history is not a niche topic, but a vital part of every learner’s journey. We work directly with educators, leadership teams, and students to embed inclusive practices, challenge outdated narratives, and build environments where every student feels seen, valued, and inspired.
Whether you’re looking to enrich your curriculum, upskill your staff, or spark meaningful conversations among students, our programmes offer more than just content—they offer impact. From interactive assemblies that boost identity and confidence, to curriculum audits that reshape how subjects are taught, to CPD training that equips staff with practical tools for anti-racist education, we provide scalable, high-quality solutions tailored to your school’s needs. Our youth programmes, like the National Ambassador Scheme, go even further—offering career development, creative expression, and long-term mentorship for young people ready to lead change.
We understand the pressures schools face, and we’re here to make this work achievable, relevant, and rewarding. Every session is delivered by qualified educators with deep expertise in Black British history and inclusive pedagogy. Every resource is designed to align with the National Curriculum while expanding it to reflect the richness of Britain’s multicultural heritage. And every partnership is built on collaboration, care, and a shared commitment to equity in education.
Let’s redefine learning together. Book your session, consultation, or programme today—and take the next step toward a more inclusive, empowering educational experience for your students and staff.
