Our Story
The Black Curriculum is a social enterprise founded in 2019 to address the Eurocentricity found in local and national curriculums
Our Story
The Black Curriculum is a social enterprise founded by Lavinya Stennett in 2019 shortly after her studies at SOAS to address the lack of Black British history in the national Curriculum.
Joined by Bethany Thompson and Lisa Kennedy in 2019, the team and services grew rapidly. Our work was heightened by the global 2020 wave of racial reckoning and grew stronger ever since. We are so proud of our mission to #TBH365.
Our programmes are for all young people aged 3-25 and aims to equip young people with a sense of identity, and the tools to navigate a diverse landscape. We aim to embed Black history in the English national curriculum to include a wide range of contextual examples of Black British histories.
Our vision and Mission
Our vision is to empower all students (3-25) with a sense of national and cultural identity and belonging through the teaching of Black British history
Our mission is to teach accessible and engaging Black histories all year round, 365 days a year, to support social cohesion and knowledge development in young people
