A Partnership Built on Shared Values

At The Black Curriculum, our mission has always been to transform education by embedding Black British history throughout the curriculum and creating learning experiences that are inclusive, empowering and rooted in historical accuracy.

The Barbican has long been recognised as one of Europe's leading arts and cultural institutions. Through its exhibitions, performances, education programmes and community engagement, it creates spaces where audiences can experience art that challenges perspectives, sparks dialogue and reflects the diversity of the world around us.

This partnership represents more than having our products available in a renowned cultural venue. It is a shared commitment to ensuring that conversations about Black history, identity, creativity and culture continue beyond the classroom and beyond the gallery walls.

About Project a Black Planet

Running from 11 June to 6 September 2026, Project a Black Planet: The Art and Culture of Panafrica is a landmark international exhibition exploring the influence of Pan-Africanism on artistic and cultural production from the 1920s to the present day.

Featuring more than 300 works spanning painting, sculpture, photography, installation, film, journals, posters and archival material, the exhibition brings together artists and thinkers from Africa, the Caribbean, Brazil, Europe and North America.

Rather than presenting Pan-Africanism simply as a historical movement, the exhibition explores it as a living and evolving force that has shaped artistic practice, political thought and cultural expression across generations. Visitors are invited to reflect on themes of solidarity, liberation, identity, resistance and collective imagination, while experiencing works by internationally celebrated artists alongside rarely seen historical material.

Alongside the exhibition, the Barbican is hosting a season of more than 50 events, including talks, workshops, film screenings, music performances and community gatherings, creating opportunities for people from all backgrounds to engage with these important conversations.

Why This Partnership Matters

Education doesn't end when you leave a classroom, and meaningful conversations don't end when you leave an exhibition.

The Black Curriculum exists to provide people with the knowledge, resources and confidence to continue learning about Black British history and the wider histories of the African diaspora. Being part of the Barbican Shop allows us to connect with thousands of visitors who are already engaging with these themes through art, culture and storytelling.

Every purchase helps support our work in schools, with educators, young people and communities across the UK. From developing curriculum resources and delivering teacher training to running workshops, assemblies and youth programmes, your support enables us to continue making Black British history accessible throughout the year.

This collaboration demonstrates the power of cultural institutions and educational organisations working together to inspire learning that extends far beyond a single visit.
