THE BLACK CURRICULUM & ACEN: ANTI-RACISM CHARTER FOR GRAMMAR AND INDEPENDENT SCHOOLS

We have partnered with the African Caribbean Education Network (ACEN) to provide schools with a joint Anti-Racism Charter, including comprehensive anti-racism guidance and training. The package (understood to be the first of its kind), is aimed exclusively at independent schools, to encourage this sector to commit to embedding Black histories into their teaching materials and to enhance students’ attainment levels and sense of belonging and identity.

Currently, Black British history is not a mandatory part of the national curriculum. By signing this charter, schools are empowered to remedy the systemic omission of Black histories within their schemes of work. This partnership provides educational establishments who commit to the charter, a guided and enriching framework to address, review and revise their processes, policies and curriculum.

This new complementary partnership will provide grammar schools with a conduit for tangible and sustainable change, through a framework which will ensure racially equitable education to be sewn into the fabric of their educational institution.
