In April 2023, The Black Curriculum set up a Working Group. The Working Group will follow the Department for Education's work on The Model History Curriculum, review and comment, and be the conduit through which different stakeholders can provide feedback on the process as well as the outcomes. The Terms of Reference for this Working group can be found here.
We are currently running a consultation exercise, as part of the Working Group activities, to explore stakeholders perspectives on the proposed Model History Curriculum. This consultation seeks to explore stakeholders' views on the proposed Model Curriculum, and also views on the teaching and learning of Black British history under the history programmes of study for Key Stages 1-3.
-
Who is the consultation for?
This consultation is for everyone who works in the English education system including practitioners who work in primary and secondary school settings, curriculum experts, Teaching Associations, Exam Boards, Teacher Unions and Teacher Training Organisations. We welcome and encourage stakeholder participation in the consultation process.
-
How will we use the findings?
The responses from the consultation exercise will be analysed and used to guide the Working Group’s proposals on the shape of the proposed Model History Curriculum, and The Black Curriculum’s policy work on the teaching of Black British history. We aim to work towards supporting and advocating for the teaching of Black British history in the national curriculum, using evidence from our research and policy work, and by partnering with policymakers, schools, education leaders, research organisations, Foundations and businesses.
